Gwamnishu's journey into activism was strongly influenced by his experiences with Nigeria's justice system. Reports about his life state that he spent several years in prison before being discharged and acquitted. After his release, he became increasingly involved in helping prisoners and families dealing with difficult legal situations. His advocacy eventually developed into work through organisations including Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation, which focuses on human-rights concerns and the welfare of people in detention.
