LEAKED AUDIO OF SEN. NATASHA AND SEN AKPABIO

A fresh political storm is sweeping across Nigeria’s social media space, and at the centre of it are two of the country’s most closely watched lawmakers: Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. New allegations, purported audio recordings and accusations of a coordinated media campaign have pushed the long-running dispute between the two politicians back into the spotlight.

The latest controversy began after US-based activist Sandra Duru, popularly known as Prof. Mgbeke, released a recording that she claimed contained conversations connected to Akpabio. Duru alleged that Akpabio engaged her to campaign against Natasha. The allegation has drawn attention because it appears to conflict with claims she made in 2025, when she accused Natasha of attempting to recruit her to make damaging allegations against Akpabio. Natasha denied those earlier allegations.

The controversy intensified after social media commentator VeryDarkMan discussed purported recordings allegedly involving both Natasha and Akpabio. The recordings have triggered heated reactions online, with questions surrounding their authenticity, context and significance. However, the recordings have not been independently authenticated, meaning the allegations should not be treated as established facts.

Natasha has since responded publicly, accusing Akpabio's camp of attempting to circulate damaging material about her through media organisations. She shared what she described as a WhatsApp conversation involving a request to identify newspapers and blogs that could publish material connected to the controversy. That allegation has also not been independently established.

The renewed attention comes against the backdrop of the bitter political dispute between the two lawmakers, which became particularly prominent following their 2025 confrontation in the Senate and Natasha's subsequent suspension.

As the controversy unfolds, Nigerians are watching the competing claims, disputed recordings and responses from both camps. For now, the central questions remain: what is authentic, what is alleged, and what can ultimately be independently verified?
